Last days of summer

I do not have to look at the calendar to notice the changing days of late, late summer.
The sun has this particular light, a golden glow, falling through yellowing leaves. There is a nip in the air, mornings are cooler and the fall nights come earlier. The storm last night whipped many branches off the trees around the neighborhood and this morning I picked one from the lawn, small maple leaves, a lovely natural bouquet.

No need to always have flowers. Leaves, twigs, grasses can do wonders in a glass.

Autumn provides us with such wonderful opportunities to bring the outside in!

  1. Hello Victoria:
A natural bouquet indeed and how pretty the Maple leaves look backlit in the glass vase. Sometimes, a serendipitous present can be just the most perfect gift!

In our Herefordshire days we would go out into the garden and bring in great swathes of branches to make arrangements around the house. All year round there was something and, as you say, no flowers were needed to create something of interest.

    1. Oh, I wished I could see this area one day! Sounds all familiar through books....
I often finds things on walks, which end up in arrangements or as decorations on my window for a while. It connects me with the ever changing seasons and nature.
Thank you for your kind comment! <3

  4. Victoria - I found your lovely blog through Patricia Van Essche and I am so happy I did. I am looking forward to reading back through some old posts - it's gorgeous! What a great idea to use the branches brought down by our heavy storms the other night to brighten your day. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I love the fall leaves arrangement. You took such a great picture with the light hitting the vase! Maple vines are one of my personal favorites for fall too. So very chic.
